District Court Locations in Salt Lake City and West Jordan
Utah is divided into eight sections called judicial districts. Each district contains at least three counties, though some, such as the Sixth Judicial District, contain as many as six. Along with Summit County and Tooele County, Salt Lake County is part of Utah’s Third Judicial District.

Utah’s justice courts do not have jurisdiction over felonies. Instead, justice courts hear criminal cases involving Class B and Class C misdemeanors, which, while less serious than Class A misdemeanors, are still fully capable of resulting in fines and incarceration. Examples include:
- Class C Misdemeanors — Reckless burning with damage less than $500
- Class B Misdemeanors — Simple assault, harassment
